Our Key Projects

At HADEO, we are committed to empowering communities through various impactful programs that promote education, economic independence, and environmental sustainability. Here are some of the key initiatives that drive our mission forward:

1. Functional Adult Literacy Programme (FAL) – Since 2011

Empowering individuals through education for a brighter future
Participants of FAL learn how to read, write, and count. Alongside literacy, we focus on practical life skills, including hygiene, sanitation, balanced diets, and disease prevention. Through FAL, we have also facilitated the formation of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), helping women build self-confidence and financial independence.
Impact: Women who were once shy are now empowered and confident leaders in their communities.

2. Get Ahead Training (G=Gender, E=Entrepreneurship, T=Together)

Training illiterate individuals to build successful businesses
In 2017/2018, over 600 participants underwent business training developed in partnership with the International Labour Organization. This training enabled many individuals to launch their own businesses and achieve economic stability.
Impact: Participants have started and sustained businesses, transforming their economic status.

3. SOFALSACCO (Soroti Functional Adult Literacy Savings and Credit Association)

A savings and credit cooperative for FAL members
Founded in 2021, SOFALSACCO helps members of the FAL program save money and access affordable loans with an interest rate of only 3%. The system empowers small groups within the larger community to support each other financially.
Impact: FAL members can apply for loans once their group has repaid a previous loan, ensuring sustainable financial growth.

4. Climate Change Project (Pilot Program)

Promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental responsibility
In 2024, HADEO provided 4000 small eucalyptus trees to the Angod A group as part of our climate change initiative. The group is responsible for caring for the trees, with training provided by the Ngora district Agricultural Officer. If successful, we plan to distribute young female sheep to group members as part of a wider sustainable farming initiative.
Impact: Empowering communities to address climate change through agriculture and livestock.

5. Sexual Awareness Project

Raising awareness in schools and communities
Launched in February 2024, this project addresses sexual health, menstrual hygiene, and WASH infrastructure in schools and communities. In collaboration with local schools, HADEO has begun a baseline survey and will train teachers and community leaders to deliver educational programs. We’ll also use radio talk shows, jingles, and drama performances to engage the public.
Impact: Improving sexual awareness, health education, and WASH infrastructure in rural communities.
